Piano Teaching

Dr. Melody Chan is an experienced and dedicated piano educator who has been teaching since 2003. She welcomes students of all ages and levels, from beginners discovering the piano for the first time to advanced musicians refining their skills and pursuing performance opportunities.

At the heart of Dr. Chan’s teaching philosophy is the belief that everyone can learn music and develop a lifelong enjoyment of it. She believes that every student has the potential to grow as a musician and that learning piano should be an enriching and rewarding experience, regardless of age, background, or starting level. Her goal is to nurture not only musical ability, but also curiosity, confidence, creativity, and a lasting appreciation for music.

Drawing on her extensive background in solo performance, chamber music, and collaborative piano, Dr. Chan brings a well-rounded musical perspective to her teaching. She emphasizes sound technique, musical understanding, expressive playing, and confident performance while tailoring her approach to each student’s individual strengths, interests, and goals. Whether students pursue personal enjoyment, examinations, competitions, or performance opportunities, she strives to create a supportive environment in which they can develop their abilities and discover the joy of making music.

Dr. Chan is proud of her students’ accomplishments, which include achieving Distinction results in Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) piano and theory examinations, winning first prizes at the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival, and being selected to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Above all, she hopes to inspire each student to enjoy their musical journey, recognize their potential, and carry their love of music throughout their lives.
